In Rio de Janeiro, host city of the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, a group of athletes maneuver their motorized wheelchairs on an electrifying football match. This is the Power Soccer Rio de Janeiro Club.
Member of the International Federation of Powerchair Football and the Brazilian Powerchair Football Association, Power Soccer Rio de Janeiro Club was founded in 2014 with the aim of developing the several potentials of the athletes. According to Mônica Dutra, one of the directresses of the club, the idea of Power Soccer Rio de Janeiro Club came from the dream of his son and athlete Lucas that was shared with the other athletes and their families who believed in the team’s proposal: to be a competitive team, promote family interaction and change the perception of society in relation to wheelchair users.
