David Clifford was born in Oliver BC Canada in 1974.
Started taking pictures when he was 15 when he got his first camera. In 1995, while in the first year of painting in art school and attending photography classes in Ar.Co (Lisbon), he decided to focus himself in photography. A passionate and avid traveler, he discovered in both photography and travel a perfect match. He began freelancing in 1997 after completing the basic studies photography program in Ar.Co Art & Visual Communication Centre in Lisbon. The following year he is accepted for a three-month internship in Público Newspaper, a main reference Portuguese daily, and admitted as a staff photographer after that period. While still working as a staff photojournalist, in 2003 he becomes an assistant photo editor. Two years later he is appointed the photo editor of Público and remained in this position until he left the newspaper in 2007. Now as a freelance photographer he is able to dedicate time to developing photo essays aiming all aspects of life, with special interest in social issues, embracing the simple and documentary approach that drives him as a photojournalist. His pictures have been published in several national and international publications; he has also worked for non-governmental institutions and commissioned corporate work.
